The Interior of the Dominican Republic
The spectacular Cordilla Central, the country's highest mountain range, cuts right through the interior/center of the Dominican Republic. It's here visitors will find incredible geography, atypical of many Caribbean island destinations. The country's second largest city in the heart of the Ciboa Valley, Santiago, which had its start as a humble farming town, is a cosmopolitan city teeming with life. The area south of this city includes everything from fertile farming valleys, world-renowned for tobacco production, to incredible rivers and waterfalls, to the Caribbean's highest mountain, Pico Duarte, at 3087 meters.
