Although many people visit the Dominican Republic for a relaxing, tropical beach vacation, the country offers an incredible variety of sports and adventure opportunities - mountain biking, diving, windsurfing, kiteboarding, surfing, canyoning, golfing, and fishing - to name a few. If you are interested in participating in a particular sport or adventure, you may wish to choose the destination you visit based on what it can offer you in this regard. Some destinations are more suited for certain activities than others. Where this may be the case, we will indicate so within the description of the sports or adventure activity.
Tours & Excursions
The variety of tours and excursions you can take in the Dominican Republic is amazing. They range from relaxing sightseeing tours of the larger city's art, culture, and historical attractions, to active nature/eco-tourism trips that have you climbing Pico Duarte, the Caribbean's highest mountain at over 3000 meters (10,000 feet).
Tour Operators offering a variety of tours and excursions can be found in every tourism destination in the country. Most are quite reputable, have been in operation for years, and provide a good product.
In the left column is a list of the different types of tours or excursions available. Several types are offered through Tour Operators all over the country, such as horseback riding and jeep safaris, and others may only be offered if their location is relatively close to the area you are visiting.
